Jane Austen in London

What could be better than that? Today, Emma, our tutor, took us on a walk through Regency London. That is, the areas and buildings built during that time period, with special emphasis on those mentioned in Austen's books. Buildings like this:

In fact, pretty much every single building was a work of art, and I took about 17 million pictures, which rather upset my camera so it pooped out in the middle of it. That's okay, I will be returning to these places for sure. I also found out today that our tutor, in addition to being a rugby player, also rides horses, and quite well. In fact, she does eventing, and has competed against Zara Phillips! As if that wasn't enough, she's also met the Queen. Absolutely fantastic. On the subject of celebrities, during this walk we also spotted our first celebrity in London. Although, at the time we had no idea who he was, so no pictures. Eddie Izzard, his name is. Didn't ring a bell. But, we came back and IMDB'd him, and found out that this is the guy who did the voice for Miles Axelrod in Cars 2, and the voice of Reepicheep in the Chronicles of Narnia! Pretty darn cool.

Anyway, moving on to more important things. Behold the house of Benjamin Franklin:

And, Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square:

Not a great picture, but I'll be returning there as well.

And, still on this walk, we saw some things that are of great importance in the area of TV shows. The Picadilly Circus mega screens, as featured in the opening credits of Sherlock:

And this lovely place, the Burlington Arcade, which I'm pretty sure is in Jeeves & Wooster. The shop where they buy the silver cow creamer:

We also visited the King's College Library, which was absolutely enormous. No pictures, because that was after the camera had already gone on strike, but I'm sure I'll be going back there too.

The only other thing of import today is that my friend Jessi and I ordered fish and chips for delivery to the flat. We had come back from our long day out in the city, and didn't feel like making anything or going to get anything. It ended up being a fantastic decision. Absolutely delicious.

Anyway, I appreciate all of you who have been reading this, and hope you're not too bored! Thinking of all of you at home! Cheers!

  1. No boredom here. =] I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself. The architecture is always one of the coolest things about going a new place. Every place is so distinctive and fabulous!

  2. Yeah, it's incredible! And when you think about how long ago they were built, and they didn't have all the modern technology we have today- mind blowing!
